Day Five: In the footsteps of giants

The Lake District is the land of Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth, writers far more eloquent than I in describing the myriad attractions of this world-renowned holiday spot. Suffice to say, I chose to spend my honeymoon here and the love affair has continued ever since.

This time around I'm in the capable hands of Graham from Mountain Goat tours, a company who have been showing visitors the sights for decades (ask him to tell you about the time he saw The Beatles at the Cavern Club before they were famous!).

Our day of exploration begins at Wordsworth's cottage (complete with daffodils in the garden), runs through the picture postcard town of Keswick, the working slate mine at Honister and ends with a pint of local ale in a village pub. The perfect end to a perfect day.
