Traveltalk’s most memorable revealed

This year alone the staff at Traveltalk have attended hundreds of industry functions, hit practically every continent and have watched more inflight films than those in the cinema. Find out our top picks here.

JENNY ROWLAND - Publisher/Sales Director

MOST MEMORABLE FUNCTION - Australian launch of U by Uniworld at Machiavelli Restaurant

Around 130 guests joined Uniworld managing director Fiona Dalton at the exclusive and highly anticipated event to celebrate the Australian launch of U by Uniworld- the revolutionary new brand offering luxe river cruising for the new generation.

MOST MEMORABLE FLIGHT - Sydney to London with Philippine Airlines

Travelled in Business class with Philippine Airlines and found that service and food were great and there was only a one hour stopover in Manila.

MOST MEMORABLE HOTEL - The Oyster Box in Durban

MOST MEMORABLE DINING - Chin Chin, Sydney

MOST MEMORABLE ATTRACTION - Adele courtesy of British Airways

She called us 'pissheads', but could probably gotten away with calling us axe-wielding puppy killers such was the level of adulation we had for Adele at her Sydney concerts.

MOST MEMORABLE DESTINATION - South Africa

MOST MEMORABLE MAGAZINE ISSUE - November 2017 and its What’s Hot special.

JON UNDERWOOD - Managing Editor

MOST MEMORABLE FUNCTION - It's a tie

Tourism Ireland at the Botanic Gardens in Sydney - I met the President of Ireland. And Aloha DownUnder at the Park Hyatt - I won four nights in Hawaii!

MOST MEMORABLE FLIGHT - Business Class with Air Canada

Very luxe and enough room for my big feet.

MOST MEMORABLE HOTEL - The Black Pearl, Vanuatu

Not actually built yet - but it will be remarkable.

MOST MEMORABLE DINING - Cafe Sydney

They do a chocolate, peanut and caramel dessert that's to die for.

MOST MEMORABLE ATTRACTION - Riding sidecar on a motorbike through Jasper National Park.

MOST MEMORABLE DESTINATION - Canada

Top of the bucket list and saw a bear. Enough said.

MOST MEMORABLE CRUISE - River cruise through southern France aboard Emerald Liberte.

C'est magnifique.

MOST MEMORABLE MAGAZINE ISSUE: All of them!!!

MARK HARADA - Digital Editor

MOST MEMORABLE FUNCTION - SriLankan Airlines

Songs by a Seeker and Subcontinental star, food by a celeb chef, and concise speeches - need I say more? Read about the event here.

MOST MEMORABLE FLIGHT - Aircalin business class, Sydney to Noumea

French chic delivered by South Pacific cheer. Read the review here.

MOST MEMORABLE HOTEL - Ratilanna Riverside Spa Resort Chiang Mai

A beautiful resort, and the hotel of choice for Thailand's Tourism Minister and Deputy PM, who stayed just a few rooms across from me.

MOST MEMORABLE DINING - It’s a tie

Japan's hotel breakfast buffets. You don't need to love natto (fermented soy beans), but it helps if you do. Plus, hot/cold udon and Japanese curry for breakfast - heck, yes! AND Thailand, because there's Thai food there.

MOST MEMORABLE ATTRACTION - Too many to name, but a few that spring to mind are ... swimming in Dumbea River (New Caledonia), Rhossili beach (Wales),  and a recent visit to Future Park at Sydney's Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences.

MOST MEMORABLE DESTINATION - Nagasaki, which you can read about on Traveltalk soon! There were many close behind, but mentions should go to Bath and Liverpool, the latter of which exceeded my expectations.

MOST MEMORABLE MAGAZINE ISSUE - Favourite cover is March (because I took the cover shot of course!). Favourite by content, September, because I was paid to eat and write about Thai food!

GAYA AVERY - Digital Editor

MOST MEMORABLE FUNCTION - Excite Holidays and Visit Los Cabos hosting a Mexican cooking class

To be talking about Los Cabos in a North Melbourne warehouse while around me agents squeeze limes, chop coriander and pulled pork is not an ordinary post work event. But this was no ordinary function. Psst: we even got the recipes!

MOST MEMORABLE FLIGHT - London to Doha on Qatar Airways

It was our first A350, and the beginning of our journey home with a toddler. And just in case you were wondering, travelling with a not quite two year old is like cramming yourself in a bird cage with a slippery tiger covered in fleas.

MOST MEMORABLE HOTEL - Hope Street Hotel, Liverpool

Like Liverpool, this hotel has a catchy refrain and profound verses, and if no one has yet penned a song in its honour, I’ll at least sing its praises.

MOST MEMORABLE DINING - Chef Legenda for Laksa and Kailasa for Indian. Both are in Melbourne. Both are on my Last Meal list.

MOST MEMORABLE ATTRACTION - Dr Who Experience

Sadly now closed, the Dr Who Experience in Cardiff was a highlight for this nerdy Whovian. But I would still recommend fans visit Cardiff and Wales at large to experience the city in which the series is filmed. Cardiff: it’s bigger on the inside...

MOST MEMORABLE DESTINATION - Melbourne

My love affair with this city has moved past infatuation into something more stable, but I still get butterflies from its very Melbourne moments.

MOST MEMORABLE MAGAZINE ISSUE - Too difficult to choose, but based on cover alone, I’d have to say March.
