Samoa’s Aussie invasion

According to recent Australian Bureau of Statistic figures, Australians are flocking to Samoa in record numbers. Arrival numbers for the 2011-2012 financial year were up by 9.25 percent on the previous year, and up 16.4 percent in the past six months.

While a vibrant events schedule including Celebrate Samoa and Independence Day celebrations have contributed to the rise, Samoa Tourism Authority’s Adele Leathan believes the growth also reflects the islands’ significant investment into its tourism infrastructure.

“Australians continue to discover our hidden jewel of the South Pacific and with great value properties and competitive airfares from our partners, there’s no better time to go and explore Samoa,” she says.

“The growth in our country is palpable and our people are responding to it by upgrading current facilities, opening new resorts and conference centres to cater to the needs of our Australian guests.” With beaches that rate among the world’s best, myriad soft adventure activities and an array of properties from budget through to well-priced luxury overwater fales, it’s little wonder Samoa was voted the South Pacific’s Best Value Destination (according to the twice-yearly Expedia-compiled HiFX Foreign Exchange Index ).
