Coles launches travel insurance

But there’s a big caveat

Some 18 months after unveiling a dedicated online travel booking site, Coles has launched a travel insurance product to add to its car and home insurance services.

Coles’ domestic and international travel insurance policies will be backed by insurer Cover-More, and come with the usual inclusions such as overseas medical and dental, amendments and cancellations, luggage and property, and personal liability, Mozo reported.

The policies also have an age limit of 70 and don't include pre-existing medical conditions, so aren’t ideal for senior travellers.

Coles first announced its intention to enter the travel insurance sector in 2015. And though it’s now available online, only those booking flights through flybuys travel, Coles’ travel arm, will be eligible for the supermarket giant’s travel insurance option.

“As with any insurance policy, it’s important to keep an eye on what’s included and excluded, and what limits apply to each benefit of the policy,” said Mozo Data Manager Peter Marshall.

“Each trip and each traveller is different, so it’s up to you to decide whether or not a policy is right for your needs.”
