FRESH FACES: MTA-Mobile Travel Agents’ Kerryn Taylor

From Christchurch to Cambodia, MTA marketing and communications manager KERRYN TAYLOR tells us where she’s been, where she’s going and what she’ll take with her to get there.

Where is the last place you’ve travelled? 

Christchurch, New Zealand – to visit family and friends. We timed it to visit during Christchurch Cup and Show week so we glammed up, indulged in a glass or two of bubbles and had a rare child-free and enjoyable day at the horses at Addington. 



Where are you going next?

Next on my travel list is to experience the contrasts of Vietnam and Cambodia – the buzzing energy of the cities versus stunning coastal resorts - an area I’ve been wanting to go to for years, but three boys have slowed my travelling down a bit.

Nothing booked at the moment, but I’ll get there one day soon!


Besides your passport, what’s one thing you always take with you on your travels?

It depends on the type of trip I’m going on – if I’ll have access to power I always throw in plug adaptors to keep my i-phone and kindle charged.

If it’s the type of trip where I’m ‘off-grid’, insect repellent is top of my list. Bugs love me!


Why did you join MTA-Mobile Travel Agents?

I had recently finished a fixed term contract working on ‘Get Set for the Games’ – the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The opportunity with MTA appealed as it combined both my knowledge of the travel industry (I started my working career as a travel agent and spent 10 years working for Eurostar in the UK) and my recent experience in marketing and communications.

I got a great vibe from the interview and felt it suited my interests and skill set perfectly. 


Tell us something people might not know about MTA?

MTA-Mobile Travel Agents has nearly 400 mobile travel advisors located right across Australia – all of whom run their own businesses and enjoy the rewards that come with that.

I’m based at Head Office where we have nearly 50 support staff assisting our advisors with the ancillary tasks that come with running a small business – leaving them more time to help their clients create trips of a lifetime!


What’s the main thing people should know about MTA?

MTA was started as a family business nearly 20 years ago and has maintained its family feel and values – everyone is treated as an individual and not just a number.

Cultural fit is really important at MTA – our conferences are more like a huge family reunion and there is a real collaborative feeling amongst all our advisors.


What’s your top travel tip

Try to get out and meet some locals – you’ll be surprised at what you learn or see that you won’t see in the tourist guide books.

Seeing a place from a local’s perspective can be so eye-opening and insightful and gives you a much more enlightened feel for a destination compared to the well-trodden tourist path.
