How this travel consultant is supporting the Lombok quake recovery effort

At the end of September, Savenio Independent Travel Designer, Tracy-Ann O’Sullivan will head off with 14 of her clients on a trip of a lifetime sailing from Bali to Komodo. At the same time, the group will offer their support to the people of Northern Lombok who are still recovering from the devastating earthquakes that hit the island in early August.

This is the third time Tracy-Ann has charted the amazing Aliikai snorkelling boat and this trip will provide an opportunity for the adventurers to bring some much needed supplies to the struggling communities in North Lombok.

“We had this trip planned since last September, but when my clients heard about the earthquake and its impact on Lombok, they were all very keen to help in any way.” Tracy-Ann said.

“Some of the guests have collected cash donations from friends and colleagues too.”

“The owner of Aliikai, Australian Amanda Zsebik, has been doing a huge amount of work to help get the community back on its feet, recognising how important the tourism industry is for operators in Bali and Lombok.”

"Amanda has reached out to expats in Bali and past guests from all over the world to help fill her boat with supplies on each trip to the area.

“While we are making a small contribution, delivering tarps and other essentials to the area, we will also be contributing to local businesses by visiting and spending money on recently reopened Gili Trawangan.”

Tracy-Ann said Northern Lombok and the North Gili islands were normally swarming with holiday makers but the earthquakes had had a devastating impact on the area with one local hotel owner feeding up to 800 locals a day from her ruined resort.

“I want to send a message to all advisors, and their clients, that the area is still open for business and there are many areas of Lombok and surrounding islands that are unaffected and the entire area relies on their tourism dollar to survive.”
