More than two in five Aussie agents seeking new staff: AFTA

AFTA Owners & Managers Survey results and winner of the Cathay Pacific business airfares

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has revealed the winner of the return business class airfares for two to Hong Kong thanks to Survey Sponsor Cathay Pacific.

italktravel Castle Hill Manager, Joanne Miller was announced as the lucky winner by AFTA Chief Executive, Jayson Westbury, at the Independent Travel Group Conference recently held in San Francisco.

“The survey is an important part of my membership and allows me to have a voice. I am a huge advocate of AFTA and proudly subscribe to the ATAS scheme. ATAS helps set our business apart and tells consumers that we are a reputable and professional business. I was thrilled to receive the business class flight and I want to thank AFTA & Cathay Pacific,” said Ms Miller.

Participation in the 2016 Owners & Managers Survey was up 40% from last year and results indicate positive sentiment surrounding business growth and performance. In light of the positive outlook 41% of businesses are seeking to employ new staff.

ATAS accreditation continues to be a highly valued element of membership and an important indicator of quality when approaching new customers. Other high-ranking benefits are Government policy and advocacy work and a listing in the ATAS directory. AFTA receives more than 2,700 directory searches every month from consumers validating that a business is accredited and in October alone visitation was up +138% compared to the same period last year.

AFTA Chief Executive, Jayson Westbury said, “The significant growth in ATAS website traffic is but just one example of growing consumer awareness. In October alone our digital activity reached over 1.3 million consumers including 31,559 consumers who watched the ATAS TVC.

Members should be confident that AFTA is committed to the continual approval of services that ensures growth and best practice. The current environment enables travel agent businesses to be agile, proactive and forward thinking and we believe ATAS plays a vital role in that. I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the 2016 Member Survey. It helps AFTA provide benefits that are relevant to you as business Owners & Managers. I’d also like to thank our survey sponsor Cathay Pacific; no doubt Joanne will have a fabulous well-deserved trip”.
