Is lateral thinking or instinct what separates travel agents from booking online? Find out as we meet Hampton Travel and Cruise’s Gary Seignior, a finalist for the National Travel Industry Awards Best Travel Agency Manager (Leisure | Single location).
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR YOUR CLIENTS THAT THE INTERNET CAN’T?
Providing knowledge accrued over the years provides an instinct for what hotel, resort or destination will perfectly suit my client’s needs and expectations. Also providing 24 hour support that offers empathy and lateral thinking when an unexpected emergency arises.
WHERE’S THE NEXT ‘HOT’ DESTINATION?
Japan is currently so hot. It offers plenty for everyone including skiing, walking tours, foodie experiences, natural beauty, history and culture plus is only 10 hours away on the same time zone.
WHAT’S YOUR BEST TRAVEL TIP?
Always cater after a long flight to allow for an extra day when arriving to recover and acclimatise to the new time zone. A wellness retreat if available is a great option to relax, get a massage and then be able to make the most of your valuable time away.
WHAT ARE THE BEST AND WORST PARTS OF YOUR JOB?
Firstly the least favourite part of my job is the unpredictable nature of what can occur whenever you pick up the phone or open your emails. Your day can be turned on its head tending to an emergency adding plenty of unwanted stress.
The best part is certainly the people who I meet along the way being staff, clients or industry colleagues. Everyone has a story and I love to hear them all.
IF YOU WEREN’T A TRAVEL AGENT, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?
I always thought about this and had visions of cleaning the beaches listening to music in a big tractor but this would not pay the bills so possibly a Real Estate agent but one with the same moral compass that I have now.
