Meet the NTIA finalists: SOPHIE KRAUEL

As a teenager she dreamt of being a photojournalist, but these days you’ll find Sophie Krauel making her clients’ travel dreams come true. Find out why this finalist for the National Travel Industry Awards Best Travel Consultant (Leisure) thinks you should get to Cuba.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR YOUR CLIENTS THAT THE INTERNET CAN’T?

Caring. It is a big one for me. I genuinely care about my clients and making sure their holidays are exactly what they had in mind. The Internet cannot provide that level of personalised service and genuine care.

WHERE’S THE NEXT ‘HOT’ DESTINATION?

Cuba, it is becoming more and more popular. It is getting easier to access and more cruise lines are now also visiting the country. I believe people want, and probably should, visit Cuba whilst it is still an emerging destination. It is still pretty much untouched and pristine at the moment and I would recommend going sooner rather than later.

WHAT’S YOUR BEST TRAVEL TIP?

Keep an open-mind. It is so important when travelling and discovering new cultures and places. And make sure you have travel insurance!!!

WHAT ARE THE BEST AND WORST PARTS OF YOUR JOB?

Best part of my job is making holiday dreams come true. Worst part is that I can’t go to all the amazing places I book for my clients!

IF YOU WEREN’T IN YOUR CURRENT POSITION, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?

I would be a photo-reporter. I had that job in my mind since I was a teenager. I have always loved photography and I believe photos speak a thousand words. I wanted to report on war-torn countries. But as I was getting more mature, I realised that I would get too emotional to be able to handle it.
