A slice of medieval pie

Don't tell my mother but I spent the day walking in the footsteps of witches, prostitutes, thieves and murderers yesterday...and loved every minute of it.

A walking tour of the medieval city of Kilkenny is the best way to get a feel for the place and I spent several hours combing her nooks and crannies.

From elegant Kilkenny Castle, built in the 12th century by one of the first truly great knights, William Marshall, to the scene of the very first trial for witchcraft in Ireland, it was an enthralling tour.

This is a place steeped in history and a must-see on any trip to Ireland.
