And the most trending destinations for Aussies in 2017 are…

...mostly colder than home, apparently.

Where, outside of the usual popular destinations, have Australians been eying, and trying, lately? According to an analysis of internal data by, four of the top trending travel destinations are in northwestern US and western Canada, with Seattle (USA) topping the list, and Portland (7th, USA), Vancouver (9th, Canada) and Banff (10th, Canada) all finding places among the top ten trending spots.

Alternative European destinations Lisbon (Portugal) and Reykjavik (Iceland) finished in second and third positions respectively, while Asia’s Colombo (5th, Sri Lanka) and Takayama (6th, Japan) also fared well.


Hayman Island (Qld) and Hahndorf (SA) were the most trending Aussie destinations.


The analysis was based on year-on-year growth in searches of’s 300 most popular destinations. Trending destinations had to have moved up in rank by at least ten places and needed higher than average growth in bookings.

The 10 most trending domestic destinations: Hayman Island, Hahndorf, Brunswick Heads, Fraser Island, Mansfield, Coles Bay, Cooma, Nambucca Heads, Mount Hotham, Yarra Glen
