New app Google’s latest move in entering the travel sphere

Just a couple of months or so after rolling out its new mobile travel search interface, Google is set to launch a new travel app in beta.

Members of Google’s Local Guides program, an initiative which sees users contribute to Google Maps by writing reviews, posting photos and editing destination information, will be the first to test the app, which aims to serve as a travel assistant.

According to PC World, an email went out to those at Level 2 of the Local Guides program with an offer to answer a few survey questions in exchange for a shot at a demo version of the app for Android and iPhone.

In addition to its mobile travel search interface, Google has beta tested a hotel booking feature, offers a Google Flights function, Google Now cards, and provides easy links to catch a ride inside of Google Maps. If the travel agent is dead, nobody told this multi-billion dollar business.
