Rocky Mountaineer’s award-winning Executive Chef, Jean Pierre Guerin made a special trip to Australia, taking guests on a gourmet journey and showcasing the delicious cuisine available on the train, as well as in the Canadian province of Alberta. After a short cooking demonstration, guests rolled up their sleeves and tested their culinary skills, preparing their own Canada-inspired dishes including Maple-Cured Salmon, Creamy Canadian Barley Risotto, Roasted Beef Tenderloin and Gorgonzola Potato Mash.

Attendees were also given the opportunity to enter a draw to win a fantastic trip for two, including return flights and seats on-board the luxurious Rocky Mountaineer in GoldLeaf Service. Travis Graham from Adventure World is the lucky winner who will be jetting off to Canada in style to experience the fine dining, exceptional service, breathtaking mountainous landscapes and of course exciting wildlife-spotting that the Rocky Mountaineer and Alberta are famed for.

“Bringing an experience in Alberta to the trade vs general sales training has proven to be a successful format in travel agent engagement. We received comments on the night by many travel agents that our Experience A Taste of Alberta event was one of the best educational nights they had attended,” says Lizzie Doyle, Travel Alberta - Market Development Director. “Travel Alberta started this initiative 3 years ago and got the formula right. It’s something we will continue in coming years, with our next event being held on the Gold Coast with Experience Alberta’s Ranch, Rodeo and Rockies featuring Calgary Stampede at the Australian Outback Spectacular.”

“Rocky Mountaineer is proud that 2015 was our 6th consecutive year of double digit growth and that we continue to be a hot selling point for our trade partners,” says Robert Halfpenny, Director of Sales – APAC, Rocky Mountaineer. “We’re thrilled to be given the opportunity to bring our Executive Chef to Melbourne so local agents can experience a taste of the delectable culinary experience on-board the train”.

All guests took home a copy of Rocky Mountaineer’s cookbook, Eat Play Love: Regionally Inspired Cuisine as a memento, giving them the opportunity to recreate the dishes for loved ones at home, along with collateral from key tour operators offering itineraries with Rocky Mountaineer into the province of Alberta.
