While EOFY sales usually conjure images of frenzied shoppers searching for bargains on furniture, appliances, clothing and even cars, new research has revealed that a great many of us are hunting for holidays too.
The data, released by Finder.com.au, shows that around 2.1 million Australians plan to shop for holidays in EOFY sales in June – that’s the equivalent of 11% of the entire population.
Whilst a number of travel brands are apparently “jumping on the [sale] bandwagon”, the research found Gen Z (18-23 years) to be the most likely to book a vacation over this period, with one in five (18%) of millennials on the lookout for travel deals.
Gen Y-ers are the next keenest, at 15%. Finder’s money expert, Bessie Hassan, says the best way to score a deal is by being “open-minded about where you want to travel and flexible with your dates”.
If you can be flexible with your departure dates, then that’s how you’ll save,” she said. “While you might like to start your holiday on a Friday or Saturday, booking flights mid-week usually offer better value.
“Likewise, avoid mid-morning departures and straight after the working day.
“If you’re cash strapped, don’t despair, deals often bleed into July.”
