Partnership helps Paradise reopen

In what can only be described as a win-win situation for the travel industry, major players have come together to offer a luxurious slice of Australian paradise.

After a ten year hiatus, Qantas has just re-launched direct flights between Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef Airport, the gateway to The Whitsundays. Flights will depart three times a week during peak season and bi-weekly when it's a bit quieter.

Why has it chosen 2014 to re-launch the destination? Because the iconic One&Only Hayman Island Resort is now re-open for business after a $80 million investment.

Traveltalk Managing Editor Jon Underwood was one of a select group of Australian media invited to travel on the inaugural flight and to visit One&Only (pictured) a day after it's official opening. He reports that the flight was particularly enjoyable and at a tick over two hours, extremely quick. A short boat ride from the airport to One&Only followed, with members of staff lined up at the jetty to meet and greet their VIP guests. First impressions are that while the smell of fresh paint still hangs in the air, One&Only looks set to fulfill its lofty ambitions of providing the finest holiday experience in Australia.

Jon will be filing more on One&Only in the next few days.
