Business travellers’ eating habits revealed

A new survey has revealed that three in five Australian business travellers (58%) eat at least one takeaway meal everyday whilst on the road, while one in 10 resort to takeaway for all three meals.

With most Aussie road warriors in the survey admitting to preferring home-cooked meals, roast chicken came out on top as the most desired meal whilst away for work, followed by the traditional Aussie staple of meat and three veg.

In the survey, which was conducted by Airbnb, three in five (60%) business travellers blamed a lack of access to kitchen facilities for their eating habits while on the road.

It’s no surprise then to learn that those polled deemed access to full kitchen facilities more crucial than anything else, apart from wifi.

Meanwhile, just over one in three (37%) of respondents confessed to eating more when travelling for work, while just one in 14 (7%) avoid fast food when on a work trip.

Airbnb Australia country manager Susan Wheeldon said the popularity of ‘Airbnb for Work’ had “been driven by an increased desire by business travellers to stay in listings, serviced apartments or hotels with facilities that make it easier to stay healthy on the road, such as fully equipped kitchens, food re-heating facilities and outdoor areas that make it easy to squeeze in a quick workout”.

According to Wheeldon, in the 12 months to July 2019, there had been a 60% year on year rise in 18 to 25 year olds using Airbnb for work trips.
