Is Contiki the new Tinder?

Sometimes you can find love in unexpected places - like the backseat of a Contiki tour bus.

As Valentine’s Day threatens to dash hopes and prompt many a rushed visit to the florist, Contiki asked young Australians what they thought about love and dating in 2019. The results may have you rethinking your online dating presence.

According to the survey, one in five travellers admitted to finding love while touring with Contiki. And before you dismiss these as being quick holiday flings, 42% of those relationships were long lasting, many ending in marriage and children.

It’s not just while travelling with Contiki where young Aussies meet potential partners though. 24% meet through online dating apps, 17% meet through school or uni and 11% meet through travel generally or through a friend.

Once they’ve found love, young Aussies would pick their partner as their ideal travel companion. A further 28% would pick their best friend, while 19% would rather travel solo.

As for romantic travel destinations, Paris is still considered the city of love with 26% of those surveyed proclaiming it the most romantic destination.

So if you find yourself looking for love this Valentine’s Day, Contiki’s 16-day European Encounter could lead to a romantic encounter where you visit Paris, the city of love, laze the day away under the sun on the French Riviera, take a romantic Gondola ride through the canals of Venice and make a wish for true love at the Trevi Fountain in Rome.
