If bar hopping, or just enjoying a nice tipple, is high on your priorities when choosing a holiday destination, then these cities will be able to help you out.
Using TripAdvisor data, Alpha Travel Insurance has created an interactive global map that shows the towns that have the highest number of bars.
Topping the list, unsurprisingly is London, with 1,327 bars. Next up is Japanese capital, Tokyo, which has 955 bars, followed by New York City with 875 bars. Rounding out the top six are Madrid (865), Prague (601) and Berlin (596).
According to the infographic, seven out of the top 10 cities with the most bars are in Europe.
The numbers do appear to be a little low, which suggests that perhaps the ‘total’ number of bars in each city refers to just those reviewed in TripAdvisor.
Or it may not consider every watering hole. For instance, the City of London last year reported that whilst the number of pubs had fallen by 25% since 2001, there were still 3,615 pubs in the metropolis.
So you can take these numbers with a grain of salt (with your tequila shot, if you like).
The only two Australian cities included in the data, Sydney and Melbourne, have 222 (23rd) and 171 (35th) respectively. And that figure definitely sounds deflated.
But the infographic still makes for some good fun. You can see the interactive map here.
