Why you should still travel with Exodus, 45 years on

Exodus marks its spot

Exodus Travels is celebrating 45 years of adventures this year, having sent thousands of people across the globe. Here, the adventure travel experts profile some of their best-selling and lesser-known tours.

It was in 1974 that Exodus began taking groups on overland adventures from London to Kathmandu .
While staying true to their adventure roots, Exodus Travels now offer more than 500 different tours across more than 90 countries and all seven continents. Itineraries cover everything from walking, cycling and trekking to the less active with culture, wildlife and family tours.

Their heritage runs deep and they wear their passion for adventure with pride.

To celebrate the last 45 years, Exodus Travels is highlighting some of their top sellers as well as some lesser-known, unique journeys that they offer.

One such tour is the ‘Finnish Wilderness’ week which gives travellers a true sense of the far north with an immersive experience in a stunning remote lodge location with the opportunity to try everything from cross country skiing and snowmobiling to dog sledding and snow shoe hiking.

Experiences like these are once in a lifetime for many travellers and while they can be categorised as both active and adventurous, they are certainly not as active as one of the other more popular Exodus adventures of hiking to Everest Basecamp.

The beauty of travelling with Exodus is that while they are experts in active adventures, this can be anything from moderate level through to extreme. All tours are individually rated to make it clear for travellers dependent on their personal preference.

From hiking along the breathtaking ‘Path Of The Gods’ in Italy’s iconic Amalfi Coast, cycling through ancient Japan, trekking the Inca Trail or discovering the lost city of Machu Picchu, all of Exodus’ trips take travellers off the beaten track, are rich in history and immerse guests into the local
communities around them.

Louisa Day, Australasian Territory Manager, Exodus Travels said the birthday was a wonderful time to reflect on the last 45 years.

“We’ve achieved so much over the last 45 years, with each year continuing to grow our offering for our clients while preserving the communities we visit and leaving as little footprint as possible in each area.

“Sustainable travel is a hot topic these days and not just one that concerns travellers.

“One example of this is that attitudes toward plastic consumption are changing at a rapid pace. As ethical travellers it’s up to us to take responsibility for the environmental impact of our behaviour and make some changes.

“That is why Exodus has banned the bottle on all our tours. We supply safe drinking water in large containers to negate the need for single use plastic bottles on all our trips.

“In 2017, our ‘Ban The Bottle’ initiative resulted in 65,000 fewer plastic bottles being consumed in Costa Rica and a whopping 90,000 fewer being used in India. Our goal is to be single-use plastic free by 2020.”

It’s easy to see why after 45 years operating extraordinary tours Exodus truly are the global leader in active adventures.
