Alex McNeil joins Hurtigruten Expeditions to develop next-gen product


The experienced explorer will put his skills to use to hone the Hurtigruten product for both new and repeat guests.

Hurtigruten Expeditions has set a course for greater depth and more destinations in its voyages, with its product set to evolve at the hands of its new Senior Vice President Expeditions Product and Guest Experience, Alex McNeil.

McNeil brings more than 15 years of adventure experience to his new role, having completed over 100 expeditions by land, air and onboard more than a dozen vessels, including 14 separate trips to the Geographic North Pole.

In his new role, McNeil will apply his extensive history enduring some of the world’s most remote terrain to design immersive itineraries and shore excursions for Hurtigruten guests. His achievements to date also include the development of expedition cruise products put together in collaboration with indigenous communities.

McNeil will also work to develop Hurtigruten’s sustainability credentials by helping to balance tourism growth with environmental changes. Hurtigruten has committed to achieving net-zero operations by the year 2040.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Hurtigruten Expeditions team as we identify global opportunities to develop an entirely new range of sustainable, guest experiences,” McNeil commented.

Hurtigruten Expeditions CEO Asta Lassesen said Alex will play a significant role in developing the future of the company’s expeditions.

“His extensive field experience combined with understanding of how to offer the most sustainable and inspiring expedition cruises, makes me confident that he will help us re-design the future of adventure travel,” Lassesen said.

Hurtigruten’s says its 2023/24 range is the most comprehensive in its 125-year history and incorporates an extensive review of what a modern-day expedition should be, combining sustainability, learning, quality, true exploration and maximising value in the overall guest experience.
