APT Group expands Douro operations with addition of MS Estrela

A new ship on the Portuguese river is the latest investment in state-of-the-art European river vessels.

MS Estrela will cater to a maximum of 120 guests.

A new star is set to shine on one of Europe’s most popular rivers next year after the APT Travel Group announced MS Estrela will make her maiden voyage on the Douro River in Portugal in 2024.

“We are delighted and proud to have the MS Estrela, meaning star in Portuguese, join our fleet of stars sailing in Europe,” said APT Travel Group CEO, David Cox.

“We are committed to providing the highest quality for our guests and the introduction of the new MS Estrela delivers in spades.”

Designed specifically with Aussies in mind, MS Estrela’s main restaurant will serve a range of Portuguese, Mediterranean and international flavours and guests can opt for a meal in the ship’s lounge or dine al fresco on the exterior deck of the main lounge.

The Douro River is the third longest in the Iberian Peninsula.

Each stateroom and suite features an ensuite bathroom, personal climate control, flatscreen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi, catering for a maximum of 120 guests.

Balcony suites will boast a design first introduced on Travelmarvel’s contemporary vessels that sail the Rhine and Danube rivers; electric slide down windows that open to a French balcony, allowing guests to enjoy the local landscape.

“Purpose designed with our guests from Australia, New Zealand and the UK in mind, we have incorporated key features including a Sun Deck featuring an outdoor bar with couches, chairs and tables as well as a large swimming pool and a golf putting green,” Cox added.

The new vessel follows the recent launch of three state-of-the-art Travelmarvel ships, Polaris, Capella and Vega, which are currently cruising the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers.

The MS Estrela will host guests for both APT and Travelmarvel brands, with differing itineraries and inclusions offered for each brand.

Sailings in her maiden season include ‘APT Douro Delights’, a 14-day voyage from Lisbon to Madrid from June to October 2024.
