Captain Cook Cruises brings a taste of Fiji to Sydney Harbour

As the line prepares to take delivery of its new ship later this year, Captain Cook Cruises brought a taste of Fijian hospitality to Sydney.

It was so hot in Sydney on Wednesday that even the men were wearing skirts!

Celebrating the dawning of a new era in luxury expedition cruising with the team from Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, the small-ship cruise line treated some lucky travel industry guests to lunch at Sydney’s exclusive Boatshed in Rose Bay.

It was a fitting place to be, back where it all began for Captain Cook Cruises, which first started exploring Sydney Harbour back in 1970 under the tutelage of CLIA Hall of Fame member Trevor Haworth and his wife, with $5 coffee cruises showing off Sydney’s spectacular inlets and waterways.

The next evolution of the company comes later this year as Captain Cook Cruises Fiji welcomes its spectacular new vessel, MS Caledonian Sky, which will take travellers on immersive adventures of the Fijian Islands as well as periodic trips to Samoa and Tonga.

“Our aim is to put the Lau and the remote north of Fiji on people’s bucket lists in the same way as the Kimberley was all those years ago” said Captain Cook Cruises Executive Chair, Allison Haworth-West.

“The joy for us is being able to give the benefits of tourism to all these remote villages - the arrival of MS Caledonian Sky is very significant and will put Fiji on the map.”

MS Caledonian Sky joins the Captain Cook Cruises Fiji fleet later this year.

Once Captain Cook Cruises Fiji takes ownership and operation of MS Caledonian Sky, its entire expedition team and crew will be Fijian, one of whom - Group Sales Manager Ilisoni Vibose - joined us at lunch.

Vibose explained the concept of ‘Vuvale’ which is Fijian for family and how it means ‘my home is your home’.

“The traditional culture is to share - even up to the food that we eat” Vibose said.

The Vuvale and the Bula spirit is everywhere you go in Fiji. In his previous life, Vibose was the hospitality manager on MV Reef Endeavour, Captain Cook Cruises Fiji’s long-serving vessel which will soon be retired.

He told us all about his favourite places- some of which the MS Caledonian Sky will be going along with Lau and the remote north on this completely refurbished luxury small ship.

With these new itineraries, the luxury refurb and the amazing crew, a Bula great time is guaranteed on MS Caledonian Sky.
