Carnival Cruise Line to install 5G mobile coverage on its global fleet

The latest in mobile technology is coming to Carnival to help travellers enjoy the best coverage wherever they go.

Carnival Jubilee launches in December and will offer 5G mobile coverage by early 2024.

Carnival Cruise Line will soon offer its first 5G mobile phone coverage at sea with plans to roll the system out across the entire fleet.

Through a partnership with leading cellular provider Wireless Maritime Service (WMS), Carnival Jubilee will be the “guinea pig”, providing guests access to the latest in mobile phone service.

Jubilee will launch in December as 5G-enabled and the service will be available early in 2024, becoming the first cruise ship in North America to provide the service.

Guests can utilise the enhanced connectivity through service plans for cruise ships provided by their wireless carriers. After the initial launch, the cruise line plans to enable other ships across its fleet with 5G capabilities, including the Australia based Carnival Splendor and its seasonal homeporting sister, Carnival Luminosa.

Travellers will be able to access the fastest service at sea, subject to their global roaming usage.

“Carnival Jubilee will be the fleet’s most-connected ship – literally raising the connectivity bar for our guests and serving as another big step in a period of vigorous advancement of our onboard connectivity,” said Carnival Cruise Line Vice President of Onboard Guest Commerce, Luis Terife.

Carnival has also rolled out fleetwide enhancements to its Wi-Fi offerings, including upgrades on all 25 ships to install necessary infrastructure for the use of SpaceX’s Starlink Satellite service.

In addition, the cruise line has partnerships with other internet vendors to equip ships with multi-provider functionality, ensuring guests always enjoy access to the most robust and dependable service available while on board.

“The ongoing enhancements we’re rolling out on all of our ships, such as SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service, make it significantly easier for guests to share the memorable experiences of their cruise with friends and family,” Terife added.

Carnival Jubilee will debut in Galveston on December 23 and sail week-long Western Caribbean itineraries that visit destinations such as Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico, as well as Mahogany Bay (Roatan), Honduras.
