Oceania Cruises has formally welcomed its first new ship in 11 years, with the formal christening of Oceania Vista taking place this week in the Maltese port of Valletta.
The first of two Allura class vessels, Oceania Vista marks the next generation of the premium line’s fleet with capacity for 1,200 passengers in an all-veranda suite layout and 2:3 crew to guest ratio.
After the ceremonial bottle of champagne smashed against the bow to christen the ship in traditional maritime style, the ship will set sail on its maiden voyage tomorrow (May 13), from Rome to Venice.
After its maiden summer cruising the Mediterranean, Vista will cross the Atlantic for a short visit to Canada and New England before turning south for the 2023/24 Northern Winter based in Miami, from where she will explore Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.
Oceania Vista’s Godmother is Emmy Award-winning Italian-American Chef Giada De Laurentiis, who has provided two original creations for the menu in the ship’s popular Italian restaurant, Toscana.
Along with spacious staterooms measuring nearly 27 square metres each, Oceania Vista features 11 restaurants, among which three are brand new to the line including signature restaurant Ember, wellness cuisine at Aquamar Kitchen and The Bakery at Baristas.
Vista also introduces The Casino Mixology Bar which will take guests deep into the preparation of an array of colourful cocktails. The new concept features among eight bars and lounges onboard.
Oceania Cruises Founder and outgoing Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings President Frank Del Rio said Oceania Vista paves the way for an exciting future for the line.
“The world-class experience of this beautiful ceremony perfectly aligns with Vista’s impeccable onboard experience, which features a stunning design, exceptional entertainment, top-notch service and innovative culinary delights,” Del Rio said.
“We are so thankful to our team members and partners worldwide who have worked tirelessly to bring us to Vista’s grand debut.”
Oceania Vista’s grand christening ceremony also enjoyed an hour-long performance by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning entertainment legend, Harry Connick Jnr.
A second Allura-class vessel and sister to Oceania Vista - appropriately named Oceania Allura - is under construction now, scheduled to debut in 2025.
