Pickleball courts to be added to nine Celebrity Cruises ships

It’s one of Australia’s fastest growing sports, with Celebrity Cruises getting in on the game.

Pickleball courts are coming to nine Celebrity Cruises ships.

Pickleball courts are on their way to nine ships in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, giving fans and players of the game a way to enjoy the game onboard.

With the establishment in 2020 of the Pickleball Australia Association (PAA), it is estimated around 15,000 people across the country are now learning and enjoying the hybrid sport, which combines tennis, badminton and ping-pong.

Incorporating paddles instead of racquets, pickleball is generally played in a doubles format although singles is also possible. Serves are made cross-court, below the waist with one foot behind the base line. After a minimum of one bounce either side, balls can then be volleyed until the point has been decided.

Pickleball matches will be scheduled by the ship’s activities team, with both adults and family sessions available. Guests can also play outside these times at their leisure, with equipment able to be borrowed from the sports desk.

Celebrity Eclipse, which is currently sailing in Australia and New Zealand, is among the ships receiving the new facilities, with Celebrity Beyond, Apex, Constellation, Equinox, Infinity, Millennium, Solstice and Celebrity Summit also receiving the new courts.

Court locations will vary by ship, from the Rooftop Garden to the Sports Deck on 15 or Sports Court on Deck 12.

“We are so excited to offer this social, fun and trending activity to both new and seasoned cruisers alike, whether travelling solo, as a couple, or as a group,” said Celebrity Cruises Senior Vice President, Hotel Operations, Keith Lane.
