The company’s newest yacht will explore some of the world’s most remote locations in grand luxury and style.

Scenic Eclipse II in Malaga

Scenic has formally christened its second luxury yacht Scenic Eclipse II in a sun-drenched ceremony in the Spanish port of Malaga, watched on by company executives, city dignitaries and VIP invited guests.

Following a number of official speeches, American explorer Dr Kathryn Sullivan stepped up as the vessel’s Godmother to cut the ceremonial rope, sending a bottle of champagne smashing into the side of the bow in traditional shipbuilding fashion.

Dr Kathryn Sullivan performs the latest in a long line of historic professional achievements.

Much like Scenic, Dr Sullivan is no stranger to exploring. Her career has seen her reach heights and depths unlike most, having crewed three Space Shuttle missions and explored the Mariana Trench as an oceanographer.

She’s also no stranger to launching highly technological machinery. In 1990, she played a key role in the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope and this past weekend, formally christened Scenic Eclipse II – one of the world’s most technologically advanced yachts.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sullivan said she was honoured to be the Godmother of Scenic Eclipse II as it was not something she ever expected to do, “but now that I have had the opportunity to tour the ship with Glen and Karen Moroney, to hear their story and see their vision for travel, I am eager to join her for a voyage.

“Seeing the level of ultra-luxury that is possible in what is truly an expedition vessel, has me wondering what the Moroney’s could do with the rather restrictive confines of the Space Shuttle and the super cramped environment of the submersible we used to dive the Mariana Trench.

“I am touched and honoured to be the Scenic Eclipse II’s Godmother.”

Scenic Founder and Chairman, Glen Moroney, said it was incredibly rare to find anybody with the list of accomplishments as Dr Sullivan.

A team of dignitaries were on hand for the christening.

“The depth of her experiences above our planet and below our seas, and her incredible passion for exploration is truly inspiring and is what we feel makes her the perfect representation of our newest Scenic Eclipse Discovery Yacht,” Moroney said.

“Although we are not able to duplicate some of her more extreme adventures – yet – we do believe that Scenic Eclipse II offers our guests exploration possibilities unlike any in the industry.

Scenic’s second luxury yacht is not an exact carbon copy of the first, with a number of improvements made in areas such as onboard wellness and recreation to add to her 114 guest suites and 10 restaurants and bars.

Scenic Eclipse II features 114 suites with butler service for all guests.

The expanded Senses Spa now features aromatherapy treatments along with features such as an integrated ice fountain, rain showers, a KLAFS custom salt therapy lounge with heated beds and an infrared lounge with colour light therapy to reinvigorate skin cells.

Deck 10 now features a new ocean view bar with al fresco seating, private cabanas and oval-shaped swimming pool.

After her maiden season in the Arctic Circle, Scenic Eclipse II will reposition to her permanent home in the Asia-Pacific where she will explore Australia’s Kimberley region, New Zealand, Antarctica as well as Tahiti, Fiji, Borneo and Japan.
