Swan Hellenic launches 2024 season featuring two of its ships, not all three

SH Diana and SH Vega will both explore the poles, but a question mark hangs over the future of SH Minerva.

SH Diana joined the Swan Hellenic fleet in April 2023.

Adventure seekers may need to have a map handy when looking at the destinations featured in a new selection of Swan Hellenic’s cultural expedition cruises for 2024.

Almost all of the expedition line’s cultural cruises follow unrepeated itineraries, so they can be daisy-chained as desired to create custom voyages of exploration.

But eagle-eyed expedition cruise watchers may wonder as to the whereabouts in the 2024 season of the modern-day SH Minerva, which was the vessel that steered Swan Hellenic back to prominence following its relaunch under its current Cypriot owners.

SH Minerva is still listed online as being part of the Swan Hellenic fleet, however it remains out of service and anchored off the coast of Uruguay amid efforts by the line to purchase it from its Russian owners GTLK Europe, which are hampered by ongoing EU sanctions.

The ongoing stalemate leaves Swan Hellenic with a fleet of two stunning newbuilds – SH Vega and the slightly larger SH Diana – the latter of which joined the fleet in April 2023.

In its newly released 2024 schedule, these two boutique expedition ships will be exploring almost every coast from pole-to-pole next year, with unique cruises calling at locations unvisited by others.

Staterooms on SH Vega are large and well appointed.

Voyages include eight-day explorations to 21-night semi-circumnavigations, accompanied by seasoned guides, renowned experts, scientists and explorers.

Standout itineraries range from ‘In Shackleton’s Footsteps’ on SH Diana, which relives historic events in Antarctica, to ‘Pristine Islands of West Africa’ on SH Vega that explores the Bijagós Archipelago, all 88 islands of which are a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The latter will also host the ‘Unspoilt Wilds of Southwest Africa’ voyage, which includes expeditions to encounter the wildlife of the Loango National Park in Gabon and Conkouati-Douli National Park in the Republic of the Congo, neither of which are accessed by any other cruise company.

Guests can enjoy their days at sea in this glorious Observation Lounge.

“We’re truly delighted with the fantastic itineraries our experts have curated for 2024, enriched with exciting new destinations, including Cuba and the Bijagós islands,” said Swan Hellenic CEO, Andrea Zito.

“We’re now offering an unrivalled choice of worldwide opportunities to see what others don’t with unique style and personalisation.”

Swan Hellenic’s purpose-built ships feature Scandi-design interiors, extensive outdoor spaces and dedicated expedition facilities.

SH Vega accommodates 152 guests in 76 suites and staterooms, the majority with large balconies, while SH Diana has space for 192 guests in 96 staterooms and suites.
