Pro golfers heap praise on Vietnam’s burgeoning golf tourism status

Sir Nick Faldo and Luke Donald say the country is home to some of Asia’s finest and most challenging golf layouts.

Six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo is a big fan of Vietnam's golf landscape.

Two of golf’s biggest stars have come out swinging in favour of an Asian destination they say is a must-visit for golfers worldwide.

Sir Nick Faldo and Luke Donald have added their support to the buzz surrounding Central Vietnam’s credentials as a destination for golf tourism.

“To my mind, Central Vietnam is near the pinnacle of places to play golf in Asia,” said Faldo, whose signature layout at Laguna Golf Lang Co is widely regarded as one of the best layouts in Asia.

“The stunning landscapes of beaches and mountains are endlessly beautiful; the warmness of the people is a joy to encounter and there are wonderful golf courses to suit players of every ability.”

The Ba Na Hills Golf Club wraps around Central Vietnam's mountain ranges.

Between them, Faldo and Donald have celebrated 58 professional wins with the former notching six Major titles in a stellar career. Donald will captain the European Ryder Cup team in its biannual clash with the United States in September.

“The topography of Vietnam is just unbelievable,” said Donald, whose design in the area, Ba Na Hills Golf Club, unfolds over foothills amid the peaks that back the coastline in Central Vietnam.

“There are courses built around mountains and on sandy soil next to the ocean. The land is hard to match.”

Other highlights in the area include courses designed by Greg Norman, Colin Montgomerie, Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Jack Nicklaus. All fit under the remit of Vietnam Golf Coast (VGC), a freshly rebooted destination marketing organisation that launched recently, linking the region’s best golf layouts.

Laguna Golf Lang Co features challenges for golfers of all abilities.

Central Vietnam also offers a range of tourist attractions, including heritage sites in Hoi An and the Golden Bridge at Sun World Ba Na Hills, a 150-metre-long pedestrian bridge that is one of Asia’s most photographed landmarks.

The region’s attributes are complemented by world-class infrastructure that includes Danang International Airport, which links Danang with direct flights to destinations including Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, India and Singapore.

“Central Vietnam is a place you must see and experience to fully take in and appreciate,” added Faldo.

“It’s a fantastic destination for tourism with great properties, great climate and clean air. The outlook for it is amazing.”
