Marry in the Maasai Mara

What's more romantic than renewing your wedding vows? Renewing them on a cliff’s edge with Africa’s dramatic Great Rift Valley as a backdrop.

Set overlooking Kenya’s Maasai Mara – considered by many as the world’s best game reserve – the new Angama Mara safari lodge offers visitors two intimate camps with just 15 tented suites in each.

Not only is this a perfect place for honeymooners, they also offer traditional Maasai weddings and blessing ceremonies for those renewing their vows. Couples wear traditional garments and are draped in colourful marriage beads before participating in Maasai rituals accompanied by the joyful singing, chanting and dancing of local villagers. This all takes place on the rim of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, overlooking the Mara Triangle, home to vast amounts of animals, including the iconic wildebeest migration.

Each luxurious tented suite and all guest areas are situated on the edge of the valley as if suspended in mid-air, offering memorable views. Tailor-made safari adventures include hot air ballooning at sunrise, game drives (the valley is home to Africa’s famed ‘Big Five’), walking safaris and private picnics. Set between the two camps, the pavilion houses a boutique, swimming pool and fitness centre.

Rates start from $US825 (approx. $AU1,085) per guest per night in a safari tent inclusive of all meals and drinks, most safari activities, laundry and childminding. Park fees, French champagne and hot air balloon safaris are extra. Each camp caters to 30 guests and can be hired out for $28,600 (approx. $AU37,622) for 30 guests.
