Lovers of Mexican food (and seriously, who isn’t?) can combine their love of tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas and much more on a new 14-day foodie tour of the country released by Caminos Travel and Tours.

The two-week ‘Mexican Spice Route’ itinerary departs in June 2023 and visits a variety of Mexican hotspots famous for certain culinary elements and flavours.

Beginning in Mexico City, the fully-escorted itinerary will visit Guadalajara and Mérida, where guests will enjoy visits to the San Juan Market, Basilica & Teotihuacan; Coyoacan & Frida Kahlo; and Sotuta De Peon. The tour also includes stops at the San Juan De Dios Market, Tequila, and Tlaquepaque.

Guests will be fully hosted by Tamaleria and Mexican Deli owner and cookbook author, Rosa Cienfuegos, who relocated from her Mexico City home to Sydney in 2009 and set up her Tamaleria and Mexican Deli street food restaurant in Dulwich Hill, in the city’s inner suburbs.

Cienfuegos launched her cookbook ‘Comida Mexicana’ in October 2020, which has gone on to become a cult hit, famed for exuding a fearlessness in the kitchen and showcasing traditional Mexican flavours.

Participants on the tour will have the opportunity to enjoy a special cooking class during the adventure hosted by Rosa Cienfuegos, who will share her home-grown culinary secrets and teach the tricks of perfecting unique Mexican flavour.

"I want to take people on a journey to discover the real flavours of Mexico," Cienfuegos said.

"Mexican cuisine is so diverse and rich, with unique ingredients and spices that are not found anywhere else in the world."
