It’s official: dating in Sydney is expensive

We’re okay with choosing smashed avo over a house and its lifelong mortgage. But now it seems we can't even enjoy the odd date either.

Sydney has come in at Number 10 in a study of the cities in which it is most expensive to date. Though you know that already, right?

According to Elite Singles, it costs an average $128 to go in a date in Sydney. The dating company defines an average date as consisting of a mid-range dinner for two, a shared bottle of wine, two movie tickets, and an 8km taxi ride home. Anyone who’s tried to watch a movie in Australia knows the practice can set a couple back over $40 and that's not even including snacks. We won’t even mention taxi prices…

Oslo took out the top rank, with an average date setting the lovelorn back $179.

Here’s the Top 10:

Oslo, Norway:  $179

Tokyo, Japan: $170

New York, USA: $160

Stockholm, Sweden: $152

Amsterdam, the Netherlands: $151

London, UK: $147

Hong Kong: $142

Auckland, New Zealand: $136

Paris, France: $132

Sydney, Australia: $128

And for those smugly married or its equivalent, remember you guys date too - only you may have a mortgage as well! Netflix and two minute noodles it is!
