Aussies invited to join ESB photo comp for first time

Empire State Building launches eighth annual photo contest

For the first time ever, Australians have been invited to participate in the Empire State Building (ESB) annual photo contest, starting June 17, 2019.


ESB announces the launch of the competition encouraging photographers of all levels from around the globe to enter their original photos of the iconic landmark for a chance to gain international exposure and win a Grand Prize of US$5,000 (AU$7,300). In addition to the Grand Prize, ESB will also award one Runner Up Prize of USD $1,500 ($2,200) and choose up to 48 Finalists.



As one of the most photographed attractions in New York City, the Empire State Building is a global landmark and renowned must-see experience. It continues to inspire countless photographers to capture breathtaking photos every day.


The brand-new entrance on 34th Street and upgraded guest experience provide visitors with even more recallable moments and ample opportunities for spectacular photos, such as the 25-foot architectural model of the Building.


Now Australian photographers will have the opportunity to enter the competition. To participate fans must submit their photo entries of the Building’s exterior, interior or its impressive unobstructed 360-degree outdoor views online at Entries will be accepted from June 17, 2019, through to September 7, 2019, 1:59pm AEST.


“This year’s contest expands to more countries than ever before,” said Jean-Yves Ghazi, Senior Vice President of ESB’s Observatory.


“For the first time, fans from Australia will have the chance to showcase their best shot of our world famous landmark joining France, Germany, India, Japan, South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.


“We are excited to see ESB through the lenses of our fans down under.”


Winners will be announced via the contest website and on ESB's social media platforms by late September.


Entrants must be over the age of 18 and legal residents of Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, France, Germany, South Korea, India, or Japan. For official contest rules and additional information about the photo contest, visit



IN OTHER ESB NEWS, the Empire State Building has announced a partnership with NYC & Company on “NYC: Above and Beyond,” a brand new interactive experience designed to provide personalized travel recommendations to visitors from around the globe.


The new exhibit, which will open in the autumn of 2019, will be located on the 80th floor of the iconic landmark, which welcomes over 4 million visitors per year.


The “NYC: Above and Beyond” exhibit encourages visitors to create a personalized trip itinerary from the top of the Empire State Building – the first stop for many during their visit to New York City.


Using an array of engaging questions about their interests and the length of their stay, a comprehensive list of recommendations for seeing Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island will be displayed for users who can then select their favorites.


Then, their selections can be e-mailed or transferred by near field communication directly to the visitors’ handheld devices. The exhibit also includes a wheelchair-accessible mode and a kid-friendly height making it accessible to all visitors.
