At a beautiful sunny waterside restaurant in Sydney we were treated to some wonderful food, wine and half naked dancing men!
Wrapping up the biggest ever Solomon Islands promotional campaign and celebrating the launch of the new Sydney to Honiara direct service commencing 2nd June we all enjoyed the great hospitality and entertainment.
In attendance were dignitaries from Solomon Islands Vistitors Bureau (SIVB) and also the Solomon Islands acting high commissioner Fiona Indu.
Speaking at the lunch SIVB chief executive Josefa Tuamoto said tourism has become a key component of the Solomon Islands government overall economic blueprint for the future and was intended to become the prime source of the country's foreign exchange earnings within the next ten years.
"[We have] a target of 25,000 visitors, the bulk of which we expect to see come from Australia," Tuamoto said.
"This is a small growth perhaps from a global perspective but from our standpoint an achievable goal. We are confident the new Sydney service will have a very positive impact and applaud our colleagues at Solomon Airlines for making this a possibility."
