Where is the last place you travelled?
Tasmania. I hiked through the national parks, dined on fresh local produce (who doesn’t love the world’s best cheeses, cherries and oysters?) and enjoyed some coastal activities on some of the best beaches in Australia.
Where are you going next?
Another outdoor holiday, in a national park - this time, in Central Queensland at Carnarvon Gorge to see its beautiful natural landscapes, wildlife and ancient aboriginal paintings.
Besides your passport, what’s one thing you always take with you on your travels?
I always pack my running shoes and try and find where the locals go for their morning exercise routine. It’s a great way to see the city you’re staying in, and get a workout too!
Brisbane Marriott Hotel is located just steps from fantastic running paths along the Brisbane River that offer unmatched views of the city. I always recommend this to guests who are staying with us.
Why did you move to this role?
Brisbane Marriott Hotel has recently completed an extensive renovation, which has presented a wonderful opportunity to re-position the hotel and guide the property into the next chapter of its life cycle. Also, I’m a Queenslander, so it’s always great to come home.
Tell us something people might not know about the hotel?
Barack Obama stayed at the hotel during the G20 Summit in 2014. The associates from the hotel made an all-Australian music playlist for him to listen to while he was running each day.
He is a regular runner and was running more than 10km each day, so it was the perfect opportunity for him to get his daily fix of Australian music.
What’s the main thing we should know about Marriott?
Brisbane Marriott Hotel and Marriott International in general both have a fantastic culture. We take care of our associates and in turn our associates take great pride in ensuring all guests have great travel experiences.
