FRESH FACES: Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets GM Thomas Zinn

It features South Australia's tallest roof top bar, but there are two other things that really make this new property stand out, Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets General Manager THOMAS ZINN says.

Where was the last place you travelled - and where would you like to go next?

My last trip took me to Victoria's Great Ocean Road via the Coonawarra wine region and Mt Gambier. South Australia's Yorke Peninsula might be next - the landscape is stunning.

Why did you take up this particular role?

Leading the Australia launch of IHG's luxury lifestyle brand Hotel Indigo at Adelaide Market combined two of my greatest passions: leading a bespoke and destination led hotel experience in a world-renowned food and wine region. It does not get much better than that.

Tell us something people might not know about Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets?

We feature Adelaide's tallest roof top bar MerryMaker, a raw food bar concept with focus on South Australian seafood and other local specialities, spoiling our guests with views of the Adelaide Hills and the CBD. One of the best spots for sunsets!

Tell us one thing that’s coming up at the hotel that’s got you excited

We have a fantastic culinary team led by Chef de Cuisine Gabriele Pezzimenti, who sources his produce from the Adelaide Market and will showcase what the region has to offer at Market & Meander, our restaurant on the ground floor.

How has the property fared through the COVID-19 pandemic?

The project experienced a number of delays mostly caused by interruption of supplies and delayed logistics. On the upside, we were able to provide work for colleagues in the industry that otherwise would have been affected more severely.

What makes a great hotel?

A passionate and engaged hotel team is the most important aspect in a hotel since the team is delivering the guest experience in the end. Telling a story linked to the local neighbourhood sparks travellers' curiosity and sends them on a journey of discovery. At Hotel Indigo we do both.

What’s your most memorable travel experience?

Travellers know this is a very difficult question to answer, and I couldn't pinpoint a specific destination. Personally, they are places of natural beauty that you cannot imagine until you have seen them with your own eyes. Uluru, the Twelve Apostles to name a couple.
