Hilton and Marriott International Australia have both been named in the Top 10 of Australia’s ‘Great Place To Work’ ranking for 2023, with both hotel operators placing in the Large Employer category.
The annual ‘Australia’s Best Workplaces’ report, compiled by the Great Place To Work Institute, factors in submissions by employees, who respond to a list of 60 statements and rate their employer on a five-point scale before providing their own free-form insights.
Hilton’s appearance in second place on the 2023 list marks the fifth time the hotel company has been recognised among large employers with more than 1,000 staff, with only IT company Cisco pipping them to top spot.
Marriott International came in sixth place, with Atlassian, DHL Express and REA Group sitting between them and their hotel industry peer.
Accommodation Australia CEO, Michael Johnson, sent his congratulations to both organisations, saying that despite an ongoing skills shortage, he hoped the recognition would help to lure potential employees to a career in the hotel industry.
“Hotels are fun and dynamic places to work,” Johnson said.
“They offer much more than just stop-gap jobs, they are large businesses with endless variety and ample opportunities for promotion, travel and job satisfaction.”
“People like working for our hotels because they are fun, supportive and interesting places to work. not because they are getting bonuses.”
Hilton Area Vice President and Head of Australasia, Paul Hutton, said he was delighted the company has once again been recognised as the leading hospitality company to work for in Australia.
“This recognition further underscores the high trust and engagement of our Team Members and is incredible testament to our purpose-driven workplace culture that we are so proud of,” Hutton said.
According to Marriott International’s surveys, 94 per cent said they felt welcome once they joined the company, with 90 per cent saying they are proud to tell others they work there.
"Our ranking in Australia's Best Workplaces for 2023 is a testament to our commitment to more than 5,000 Associates across Australia and our core value, ‘Put People First’,” said Marriott International Area Vice President for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Sean Hunt.
“Our Associates are the cornerstone of our success and their dedication and passion for our organisation is what drives our culture. This recognition reflects our company’s founding philosophy that when you take care of your people, they take care of your business.”
