HOTEL REVIEW: Holiday Inn Express Hotel, London Heathrow T4

After a seemingly endless journey and more to come, this well-located hotel was a saving grace.

Holiday Inn Express London Heathrow T4 features 457 basic, but comfortable rooms.

Have you ever been in the situation where after 48 non-stop hours of travel, you realise you just can’t physically continue?

That was my predicament on arriving in London recently. I flew with Etihad Airways from Sydney with a nine-hour layover in Abu Dhabi and very little sleep. I still had to tackle the car hire queues and had a two-hour drive ahead of me. I very sensibly realised that I just didn’t have it in me, so at 8pm I booked myself into the Holiday Inn Express at Heathrow Terminal 4 for some much-needed shut-eye.

The hotel is a short, covered walk (less than five minutes) from the terminal, well signposted and accessed from the departures level. I was able to take my Heathrow luggage trolley all the way to the room, in fact, I kept mine in the room with me!

The lobby is spacious with plenty of seating. Breakfast (which is always included) is served next to the lobby between 5am and 10am and offered cereals, pastries and a hot buffet.

Ensuite rooms are compact and functional, air conditioned with a small desk, plenty of accessible electrical outlets, a 49” TV, WiFi connectivity, tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. There is a choice of twin or double bed with some rooms offering an additional sofa bed. The hotel was very quiet providing an excellent haven for the sleep deprived.

Another IHG hotel, Crowne Plaza, is connected to the Holiday Inn Express and provides a bar and restaurant available to the public.

The hotel is easily located, via an indoor walkway from the airport terminal.

Number of rooms: 457

Room features: Compact and functional but clean and comfortable. Twin beds, TV, small table, bedside table. Ensuite toilet and shower.

Is Wi-Fi readily available? Free high speed Wi-Fi

What facilities does the hotel offer? Breakfast restaurant onsite. Bar and restaurant situated at Crown Plaza next door (connected).

Did you find the location convenient? The hotel is connected to Heathrow Terminal 4 via an indoor walkway, accessed with a five minute walk. You can bring your luggage trolley all the way to the room.

What was the best thing about the hotel/resort? Convenient location, a quiet place for the jetlagged to sleep.

What would I change? For a “budget” hotel, it was pricey at £107 per night, but that was the rate for a walk-in. Advance booking offers reduced rates.

Would you stay there again? For convenience to Heathrow, yes.
