If you’ve ever had a brilliant idea in the shower (and who hasn’t?) only for it to be lost between the singing and the scrubbing, you’ll love this concept.
To help capture “moments of inspiration”, Marriott Hotels is trialling an innovation, which allows guests to sketch ideas onto a shower screen that has been converted into a touchpad.
To catch the ideas, guests need simply draw onto the steam-covered screen, at which point touch-sensitive technology built into the shower door sends the moment to the guest’s email. The doodles can then be shared via email or social media.
The idea was inspired by a study (2017 Marriott International survey of 5,000 international travellers) that showed over half of all business travellers (51%) feel their best ideas come while showering.
The hotel group will test the product for two months at the newly redesigned Marriott Hotels Irvine, California.
“Marriott Hotels promises to embrace the pace of change,” Marriott Hotels vice president and global brand manager Matthew Carroll said.
“We are constantly looking for new ways to use technology to enhance our guest experience.
“Our M Beta hotel in Charlotte started our journey of testing and trying and this shower door technology pushes the limit of our thinking in an imaginative and fun way.”
Marriott says it will study usage, feedback and satisfaction scores from guests staying in the ‘Splash of Brilliance’ room before proceeding with a wider rollout.
In related news, Marriott International has announced it will open nearly 40 luxury hotels in 2018, including the return of the W brand to Australia, with the W Brisbane.
