REVIEWED: The Sebel Melbourne Docklands

I grew up on Cadbury’s dairy milk chocolate. The shiny purple wrapper still puts a huge smile on my face. The Sebel Melbourne Docklands with its signature purple decor reminds me of that warm comfy Cadbury’s feeling and puts a similar smile on my face!

Check in is fast and efficient and I’m relieved that I can check in three hours early. Having flown in overnight from Singapore I’m delighted to spy my huge king size bed when I enter my 1 bedroom apartment and eagerly look forward to getting between those luxury Egyptian cotton sheets later.

The room is modern Melbourne chic - spacious and yet very cosy with fantastic water- and city-views.

Whilst not in the centre of town the free tram stops right outside the door and is five minutes from the CBD so a really great alternative to staying in the city.

There is a fully equipped kitchen with European appliances so if you’re bored with the Melbourne culinary scene (really!??) you can Masterchef here in your own kitchen but, conveniently, there are great cafes and restaurants along the vibrant waterfront right outside your door .

The in-house Capri cafe is excellent and I do recommend their smashed avocado with poached eggs.

Hotel staff are friendly and super efficient and passed my “Jen tea bag test “with flying colours!! (I ran out of English breakfast) and they were knocking at my door within five minutes of my SOS clutching a handful.

With a 25 metre heated lap pool, sauna and fitness centre way above normal hotel standards you do get the chance to burn off some of the delicious excess Melbourne calories.

You also get 2 TVs, Foxtel air con, laundry and strong wifi thrown in.

The only thing that’s missing is... the Cadbury’s dairy milk!!
