The Calile in Brisbane has been voted among the highly exclusive World’s Best Hotels

The maiden list of the top accommodations in the world have been revealed at a star-studded event in London.

The Calile has carved out a name for itself as one of Australia's top urban resorts.

Global hospitality and travel ranking platform 50 Best has revealed its maiden list of the ‘World’s Best Hotels’, with Brisbane’s The Calile claiming 12th place and Australia’s only spot in the coveted list.

The 175-room property, managed by TFE Hotels, sits in Fortitude Valley and since opening in 2018, has carved out a place in rarified air among the city’s and the country’s top boutique luxury hotels.

"There is no doubt The Calile Hotel has carved a name for itself and sparked a trend in ‘urban resorts’ with its bold architectural commitment, sustainable practises and by embracing its local and sub-tropic climate within an urban setting,” said The Calile’s co-owner, Catherine Malouf.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2023 was unveiled at The Guildhall in London, put together by an esteemed and hand-selected global panel of 580 independent judges from across the travel and tourism landscape, each chosen for their experience and knowledge of the global hotel scene.

The Calile sits in Fortitude Valley and features 175 rooms and suites.

Judges were asked to consider their seven best hotel experiences during the voting period, with every element of the guest experience assessed including first contact point, room comfort, food and beverage, on-site facilities and check out.

Taking out the top prize in the inaugural World’s 50 Best ranking was Italy’s Passalacqua, a luxury 24-suite boutique property set inside an 18th century villa on Lake Como which features spectacularly landscaped gardens which run right to the water’s edge.

Following close behind was Rosewood Hong Kong while Four Seasons Bangkok, The Upper House Hong Kong and Aman Tokyo rounded out the top five.

London claimed four places in the World’s 50 Best Hotels list, while two others in the United Kingdom also feature. Paris also claimed four places.

Passalacqua on Italy's Lake Como was voted the World's Best Hotel.
