When I stay in a hotel, I try to be as eco-friendly as possible: air-conditioning in most cases remains switched off, towels are used for the entirety of a stay, and I’ll rarely even bother having my room serviced. But clean sheets on arrival are an obvious must.
Unfortunately, one hotel guest wasn’t so lucky. The visitor anonymously posted a photo of a note they found in their hotel bed on Imgur with the caption “Heard something crinkle when I settled in for the night…” followed by the words contained in the message: “if you’re reading this, then housekeeping did not change your sheets!”
Needless to say, the post prompted quite the response on social media, with hundreds of travellers sharing their experiences of dirty hotel rooms on thread Reddit.
One user wrote: “I walked into a hotel room once with an unmade bed, a half drank case of Busch (beer) under the sink, damp towels everywhere, and the TV on. It wasn’t even the wrong room and it was booked. Housekeeping just didn’t even go in that day.”
Others wrote of finding “used underwear”, a vibrator in a bedside table, and dentures with loose false teeth.
Another commentator advised guests to strip their beds before leaving so housekeeping would remake it with fresh sheets, while someone else said they were “definitely going to start putting these notes in my hotel beds when I check out”.
Although the hotel at which the guest was staying wasn’t identifiable, the note was written on Courtyard Marriott hotel stationary.
