A grim warning for Australian airports

The reopening of the US borders was met with great fanfare…and even greater queues, as hundreds of travellers were kept waiting for hours at JFK International Airport this week.

The airport was beset with the arrival of three flights from Manchester at once and while normally a cakewalk for the once busy airport, after 600 days of skeleton staff and incoming passengers, according to some passengers, the airport was not ready, the Mail reported.

One passenger took to Twitter to complain: “20 months closed lots of time to get things right and JFK Airport queues are a disgrace”.

This should serve as warning for our own airports to prepare to SAFELY manage arriving passengers who will have to jump through a few more hoops than they did in a pre-pandemic world.
