Asian, Aussie airlines are the world’s best: awards

The world’s best airlines have been recognised by, and the news is good for anyone who prefers to fly with an Asia-Pacific carrier (and who doesn’t?).

The Airline Excellence Awards named Singapore Airlines as the world’s best carrier for 2019 (strangely before the year has begun...), with the Changi-based airline pipping five-time Airline of the Year and 2018 winner Air New Zealand, Qantas, Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia to the honour.

Fellow Asian and APAC carriers Emirates, All Nippon Airways, EVA Air, Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines rounded out the top ten operations.

Only airlines who have achieved AirlineRating’s unique seven-star safety rating and “demonstrate leadership in innovation for passenger comfort” were considered for the top ten.

Along with “a consistent level of service, innovation and staff engagement”, criteria included fleet age, passenger reviews, profitability and investment rating.

“Whether number one or number 10 these airlines are the best in the world,’’ the judging team said.

“They are the aviation elite, the benchmark by which all others are judged.”

Of Singapore Airlines, the panel identified the carrier’s in-flight service, new aircraft types like the A350 and 787-10, enhanced interiors and safety.
