In the world of fine dining, beer is the new wine. The craft beer industry in Australia has enjoyed 15 per cent growth in the past year, with more and more gourmet-dining establishments offering beer tastings and degustations.
It was only a matter of time really, before some clever travel company introduced beer tasting tours of the two countries where beer has always been taken seriously: Austria and Germany.
That clever company is Avalon Waterways, who launched their 2014 brochure last night, appropriately, at the Bavarian Bier Café.
Their new beer tasting cruise includes onboard beer tastings with a beer professor, visits to historic breweries and lectures on brewing techniques.
The Traveltalk team had a sneak preview at the launch where we learned about the history of brewing, the difference between pilsner and ale and how not to be afraid of the dark (beer).
Avalon’s themed river cruise line-up now also includes golf cruises, WW1 history cruises and a wellness cruises which include yoga classes and healthy dining options.
The river cruise company also announced their first itineraries on the mighty Amazon next year, introducing an 11-day Peruvian adventure onboard the new Amazon explorer: Aria.
The 16-suite ship is designed for cruising South America’s great river in style, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, an outdoor Jacuzzi, indoor and outdoor lounges, a bar, elegant dining room and an open-air sun deck.
Avalon’s new early bird specials offer a choice of four different deals:
