English Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United will renew their century-old rivalry when they meet for the first time in Perth later this year.
The exhibition match sees the fierce London Derby take place in Australia for the first time, with the match to take place at Optus Stadium on 18 July.
Stars from both clubs are expected to travel to Australia for the contest, which builds on last year’s EPL showcase which saw Manchester United, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace all converge on the WA capital for a series of matches.
This series delivered a $77 million boost to the state’s economy, with nearly 5,000 fans from out of state descending on Perth to cheer on their teams.
West Ham will arrive in Western Australia earlier than their North London rivals, with the Hammers to also play A-League side Perth Glory prior to the match against Tottenham.
The matches will serve as a blockbuster precursor to a strong line-up of football in the weeks following the English Premier League sides’ visit, with Perth set to host five matches in the FIFA Women’s World Cup from 22 July to 3 August.
Western Australia Tourism Minister Roger Cook said Perth will be the only place fans of the Premier League can see teams in action in Australia this year.
“Western Australia will once again become Australia’s home of international football when these English Premier League superstars descend on Perth later this year,” Minister Cook said.
“I am also looking forward to our own Perth Glory matching it with some of the best players in the world.
“We know these high-profile sporting matches have a strong economic impact and I'm pleased the WA Government, through Tourism WA and its partners, have continued to secure these major sporting events.
“Hosting these top teams from across the globe attracts more visitors to our State, which means more hotels are filled and more dollars are spent in our excellent restaurants, bars, cafes and local businesses, and firms up our reputation as one of the sporting capitals of the Southern Hemisphere.”
Tickets to both matches are now on sale and can be secured here.
