At least five people have been killed in a fire that tore through a hotel casino in Manila, city authorities said.
The fire, which is now out, saw heavy smoke billow from the Manila Pavilion Hotel into the sky of the Philippine capital, and reportedly injured several others.
Bureau of Fire Protection officials said another woman is fighting for her life in a hospital and all other hotel guests and staff are accounted for, AP reported.
According to Associated Press, it is still unclear as to whether the fire started in the casino on the lower floors or a mezzanine that was under renovation.
Foreign tourists were among the 300-plus hotel guests and staff who were evacuated, some by helicopter, during the most intense period of the blaze.
Inspected from above by Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, the hotel is located in Manila's Ermita tourist and commercial district.
