It’s always a wow lunch at Peter Gilmore’s three-hatted Quay, but there was a double Wow recently at the Sydney restaurant when Flight Centre launched its annual top 50 WOW Experiences for 2020.
Flight Centre head of marketing creative and content Luke Wheatley told guests at the launch event how Australia’s biggest travel agent retailer came up with the list.
According to Mr Wheatley, Flight Centre created the index by using a detailed analysis of booking and enquiry data, supplier growth numbers and its extensive network of Flight Centre travel experts.
After more than six months of work, the group was then able to establish its top 50 inspirational and must-do experiences for the year ahead, as well as three major findings:
- Top destinations like New York London and LA are quite stable
- Emerging destinations are seeing massive growth (Sri Lanka, for instance)
- People are looking for fresh experiences, like new places to ski such as South Korea that is affordable, has great snow and offers an alternative to Japan
“The whole magazine is written by consultants and Flight Centre experts and that’s because our people are always travelling or thinking about travel and it’s part of the Flight Centre DNA,” Wheatley said.
During the lunch, the group also highlighted a river cruise through the south of France, the Northern Lights in the Yukon, a rail trip through scenic Switzerland and an amazing Heron Island experience in the Great Barrier Reef.
The glossy magazine is due to hit the streets on December 5, with the rest of the top 50.
