Major OTA reveals 2018’s most booked destinations

No surprise at the top, but there are some big movers

It mightn’t always make headlines for the right reasons, but when it comes to Australians’ most popular destination abroad, it’s hard to look past Bali.

Analyzing booking data, online travel agent Agoda tallied Aussie travellers’ favourite destinations - domestic and international - and found Bali to be the most booked spot, ahead of local cities Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Proving the popularity of East Asia, the next most booked destinations by Aussies in 2018 were Bangkok, Tokyo, Singapore and Phuket, with Perth sandwiched in the middle.

After Australia, Indonesia, fast-rising Japan and ever-popular Thailand were the favourite countries.

When it comes to how the rest of the world is travelling, at least through Agoda, Bangkok, London and Las Vegas were the most popular destinations in Asia, Europe and North America respectively, ahead of Tokyo, Paris and Los Angeles.

Notable movers among the most booked destinations among international travellers were historic Istanbul (up four places to fifth) and the US southern cities of Phoenix and Houston.
