Melbourne beats Bali for V Day celebrations

Valentine’s Day is surely the reason why February is so short. We’ve literally just had Christmas and we’re meant to start stressing about V Day as well!

It’s no wonder that folk are looking to get away from it all (even if they’re intending on bringing their loved one - now that’s a present).

Data compiled by the travel search engine KAYAK.com.au has shown that many Aussies are looking for a loved up staycation, rather than a grand, exotic getaway. And Melbourne is the most searched travel destination this Valentine’s, boasting a +64% year-on-year increase in flight searches.

Whilst Melbourne is the overall winner for Valentine’s Day vacations, Australians are also looking further afield. New Delhi, India, came in at second place and has seen an increase in year-on-year searches of +53%.

Bali was crowned third place but surprisingly has seen a -6% year-on-year decrease in flight searches. Singapore, known for its state-of-the-art airport, opulent hotels and lavish lifestyle and entertainment has also seen a significant -24% year-on-year decrease in flight searches. Could Aussies be looking for more off-the-beaten-track romantic holidays, and moving further away from mainstream destinations?
