New Year’s resolutions can vary greatly, and not all revolve around abstinence. For instance, for many, the lure of travel trumps all else.
New research released by Australian youth travel operator The Global Work & Travel Company shows that New Year’s resolutions result in a spike of almost 50% in enquiries and business.
According to CEO Juergen Himmelmann, January is the company’s busiest month for bookings as young travellers look for new life experiences.
“January bookings boom by 45% compared to December,” he said.
“Customers cite the New Year and new “life goals” as a main reason they decide to make a change and book a working holiday or volunteer experience, go teach English abroad, travel as an au pair or undertake a professional internship.”
When it comes to the most desirable destinations for young travellers looking for a lengthy stint abroad, Himmelmann flagged Canada, the US and UK as “always extremely popular thanks to their identifiable landmarks and bucket list locations”.
